What the Spell Life a Witch Brittany Geragotelis Books
WHAT THE SPELL is a fun, charming, bittersweet and utterly delightful story of magic, mean girls and boys, actions and consequences, and the price one girl is willing to pay to fit in. A quick and engaging read, with just a touch of the paranormal to differentiate itself from its contemporary peers, this story will hold readers captive as they follow Brooklyn Sparks as she treads the line between right and wrong in her attempt to shed her cloak of invisibility and find out just who she really is.All Brooklyn wanted was to be noticed. Having been virtually non-existent for years, she couldn't wait for her parents to unbind her powers so that she could change her life. So that she could go from being friendless and invisible to pretty and popular. So that she could make a difference. So that she would matter.
But when her makeover got her noticed by "The Elite" - the most popular group of kids in school - she wanted more than anything to become one of them. To go to the best parties. To meet the most influential people. To be revered by her classmates. To be powerful.
And it was all within her reach. She just had to prove her loyalty. She just had to pass their tests. She just had to be willing to cross the line.
Author Brittany Geragotelis has created a main character who is both incredibly sympathetic and wildly frustrating, someone who must decide whether their need for acceptance is worth the price for popularity, and whether honesty, selflessness and doing what's right are more important than fitting in.
WHAT THE SPELL is a story that will have readers rooting for the main character to make the right choices, cringing when she doesn't and cheering when does. And with a cast of characters that keeps this story exciting - from the powerful Elite to the adorable and swoon-worthy Asher Astley - and an ending that will make them wonder exactly what happened and anxious to find out just what comes next, this prequel story in the Life's a Witch series hits just the right balance between being one that is light, fun and flirty and one that has a bit more depth.
For readers looking for a story with a fresh twist on a mean girl theme, a touch of the paranormal with spellcasting and witchcraft, a character who must learn one or two of life's lessons, and an ending that leaves off with a bit of a mystery, WHAT THE SPELL won't disappoint.

What the Spell Life a Witch Brittany Geragotelis Books Reviews
I jumped at the chance to review this one...you all know that I can't resist a good Witchy story. What the Spell was well written and I enjoyed the narration but sadly this just didn't deliver as expected. I found the main character Brooklyn to be pretty unlikeable and incredibly shallow (even for a teenager) and I was never able to make any connection to her. The parents are typically absent in this one...they simply unbind her powers and then let her run wild with no guidance at all.
I also found the plot to be lacking in substance...I hoped and expected that we would be privy to more of her struggles with accepting and learning magick....with her new experiences practicing magick etc. However, the sole plot line seemed to revolve around Brooklyn's efforts to get into the popular crowd and all of her machinations to do so. The love interest Asher was likeable enough and his sister was perhaps the one saving grace in the book...I loved the bits that she was in. I listened on with the hope that Brooklyn would eventually start taking her magic and her life more seriously, but she never really redeemed herself.
There was a lot of potential here the history of the tribulations of their families as witches, a young girl learning to use her gifts without compromisung her values or family's safety, the brewing danger of things to come that was simmering under the surface, Asher's whole family's situation... Maybe these themes will be explored more in the upcoming books in the series...but I don't think I'll be picking up book 2 to find out.
All in all, it was a fairly predictable and pretty annoying tale of a teen girl (who happened to have magick) and how far she'd be willing to go to stay in the popular crowd.

This book is simply phenomenal. With the perfect mix of teenage romance, popularity, and a little magic, I cannot imagine a more perfect young adult fiction.
This is a great YA fantasy book, that deals with natural insecurities and 'girl problems' with a lot of compassion. Def a great pick for my nieces (after I (32) finished it that is) ;)
The first installment of What The Spell is a lot of fun. A great mix of fun, magic and fashion! Brooklyn is an interesting character that I can't wait to learn more about in the next installments!
gifted
These books are just great I love Hadley and her story can't wait for more I got so hooked on these books I read them a lot they really get my imagination going I can picture the characters so Vivid as I read I do hope their can be a 4th book
So I just spent yesterday and today finishing What the Spell? on my and reading the Abby Diaries (because I started but never finished them). I loved it! The whole idea that everyone was telling her that The Elite were bad news, yet she still pursued them, showed the sheer determination of Brooklyn's character.
I loved her relationships with Asher, and Ms. Zia especially. I thought it was really cool how they were friends or sisters rather than teacher and student.
Finding Abby's completed paper in the Abby Diaries made me happy because I got to see exactly what had been posted all over the school. It really irked me that Brooklyn wouldn't listen to anyone when they told her she was changing, and wouldn't say no to the Elite. I guess that was the point though. lol.
I really like the way Britt writes. It's kind of blunt and realistic, yet funny at just the right moments. That description was probably kind of vague, haha. I just think her writing's relatable and fun to read.
I'm excited for WTS? to come out in January so I can do my book talk (we have to do these speeches every quarter on a book we've read and liked) on it for school.
A great read for anyone who's interested in teen romance, fitting in, choosing right or wrong, and a little magic along the way.
I really enjoyed it! )
